New standards of sustainability
Spark: The Bristol & Bath Science Park

About SPark

Sustainability

SPark is being created in an environment that respects the local community and the existing site.

From the preservation of the site’s original topography to the retention of existing hedgerows and stonewalls, Spark will set new standards in sustainability.

40% of the materials used in constructing the Park are coming from within 30 miles. Energy will be generated from renewable sources on site and systems throughout the buildings, such as lighting, will be energy-efficient. The Innovation Centre itself will achieve the internationally recognised BREEAM “excellent” standard and targets have been set to focus Spark on becoming a zero-carbon site.

The importance of making Spark a part of - rather than addition to - the local community has been at the heart of the design process. Local transport will run through rather than around the site, acres of green space will make this a stimulating place that people living nearby and working within will enjoy, and many of the 6,000 jobs generated by Spark will be actively marketed to the Park’s neighbours.
